Employment in Anchorage Municipality, Alaska, increased by 1.4 percent from March 2024 to March 2025, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Chris Rosenlund, Regional Commissioner, stated that this rate ranked Anchorage 48th among the 364 largest U.S. counties with published data.
Anchorage recorded an employment level of 146,900 in March 2025, representing about 45.4 percent of all jobs in Alaska. The report notes that the nation’s largest counties—defined as those with at least 75,000 jobs on average in 2024—accounted for nearly three-quarters of total covered employment across the United States.
The average weekly wage in Anchorage rose by 4.7 percent over the year to $1,502. Nationally, the average was $1,589—a rise of 4.1 percent from a year earlier. Anchorage’s weekly wage ranked it at number 107 among large U.S. counties for pay levels and number 71 for percentage increase.
For Alaska’s smaller county equivalents—those with fewer than 75,000 jobs—the report provides additional employment and wage data covering boroughs and census areas throughout the state. Wage levels for most small county equivalents fell below the national average; North Slope Borough reported the highest average weekly wage at $2,868 while Lake and Peninsula Borough had the lowest at $815.
Of all thirty Alaska counties measured in this period, seven reported average weekly wages under $1,100; ten registered between $1,100 and $1,299; six had between $1,300 and $1,499; and seven reported averages of $1,500 or higher.
