Adam Jamil has been with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) for four years, working in the Consumer Affairs Branch at the Sacramento headquarters. In his role, Jamil leads a team responsible for reviewing and resolving written customer complaints. He is involved in planning and implementing new processes to address emerging consumer issues and coordinates with other divisions, utilities, and external stakeholders. His responsibilities also include summarizing key issues for leadership to support strategic planning, managing team activities such as performance evaluations and hiring, and ensuring timely responses to customers.

Jamil described the most rewarding aspect of his work: “For me, the most rewarding part is contributing to decisions that make a difference in people’s lives. I appreciate that my work is meaningful and that I learn from others while helping improve essential services. It’s fulfilling to know what we do supports a better, safer, and more reliable future for everyone.”

He shared advice that has influenced his career: “The best career advice I’ve ever received is to always stay open to learning. I was told that even small opportunities to grow, whether it’s taking on a new task, asking questions, or learning from someone more experienced, can shape your career in ways you don’t expect. That advice has helped me stay curious, build confidence, and moved me forward in my career.”

Regarding his contribution to the CPUC’s mission, Jamil said: “I contribute to the CPUC’s mission by ensuring consumer complaints are handled quickly and fairly. I also help improve processes to resolve complaints by working with other divisions, and utilities, and by supporting my team. This helps the CPUC provide reliable and trusted services to the public.”

Outside of work, Jamil enjoys playing cricket, traveling, exploring new places—including restaurants and attractions—and spending time with family and friends. He stays active through walks or light workouts and relaxes by watching shows or listening to podcasts.

When asked about hobbies outside of work he particularly enjoys, Jamil said: “One hobby I really enjoy outside of work is traveling and exploring new places. I love discovering interesting spots, trying new foods, and seeing what each place has to offer. It’s a fun way to relax, recharge, and have new experiences.”
