The U.S. Census Bureau has announced the release of new Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing (TIGER)/Line files for 2025. These files are available in Shapefile, Geodatabase, and GeoPackage formats, enabling users to create custom maps using various data sources.

According to the Census Bureau, “The 2025 updates include new Current Suffixed Blocks Geodatabases and GeoPackages, which contain 2020 and current block information with suffixes indicating blocks that have been split since 2020. These data can be linked to the Census Bureau’s current address count listing files.”

The geospatial data provided includes legal, administrative, and statistical boundaries as well as roads and hydrography. The updated geographic boundary data can be connected to upcoming 2025 demographic data on data.census.gov, allowing users to visualize census tabular information on maps.

While TIGER/Line files do not contain demographic statistics themselves, they provide geographic entity codes (GEOIDs) that can be linked to demographic datasets from the Census Bureau. For guidance on selecting appropriate products, users are directed to consult the TIGER Data Products Guide page.
