The U.S. Census Bureau has announced a prerelease webinar for the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates, which are set to be publicly released on September 11, 2025. The session aims to guide participants on how to access ACS data and resources, as well as provide instructions for comparing statistics across different geographies and time periods.
The ACS collects information on various topics including language spoken at home, education, commuting patterns, employment status, mortgage and rent details, income levels, poverty rates, and health insurance coverage. It remains the only source offering local estimates for most of its more than 40 topics.
Embargo subscribers will receive early access to the one-year statistics beginning September 9 at 10 a.m. ET. This embargoed data covers all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, all congressional districts and metropolitan statistical areas, along with other regions with populations of at least 65,000. The embargo period ends at 12:01 a.m. ET on September 11. During this window, wire and distribution services are not permitted to distribute news stories or data files before the public release date in accordance with the Census Bureau’s embargo policy. All datasets will become publicly available by 10 a.m. ET on September 11.
Those interested in embargo access can register through the Census Bureau’s website at www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/embargoed_releases.
The prerelease webinar is scheduled for Thursday, September 4 at 1 p.m. ET and will feature Caleb Hopler from the American Community Survey Office and Jewel Jordan from the Public Information Office.
According to the announcement: “The webinar will consist of a simultaneous audio conference and online presentation. Attendees do not need to call into the webinar to hear the audio. Credentialed media and data users will be able to ask questions during the webinar utilizing the Q&A feature and after the presentation through audio.”
