The U.S. Census Bureau has announced that embargo subscribers will receive early access to the 2020-2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates starting January 27 at 10 a.m. Eastern Time. The general public release is scheduled for January 29.
The ACS collects data on various aspects of life in the United States, including language spoken at home, education levels, commuting patterns, employment status, mortgage and rent information, income, poverty rates, and health insurance coverage. According to the Census Bureau, it is the only source for local estimates on most of these topics.
Embargoed access will be provided for multiple geographic areas such as all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, congressional and state legislative districts, metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas, counties, places, census tracts, and block groups.
The embargo period runs from January 27 at 10 a.m. ET until January 29 at 12:01 a.m. ET. During this time, wire and distribution services are not allowed to distribute news stories or data files before the embargo lifts. More details can be found in the Census Bureau’s embargo policy. Once released publicly on January 29 by 10 a.m., data products will be available through data.census.gov and related tools.
