The U.S. Census Bureau has released updated population estimates and projections extending to the year 2100 for 21 countries and areas through its International Database (IDB). The update includes demographic data for Australia, Bangladesh, Barbados, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, El Salvador, Eswatini, Guatemala, Iran, Jamaica, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Nigeria, Philippines, Rwanda, Togo, Tunisia, the United States, and Zambia.
This release also covers data for 13,671 subnational regions worldwide that are comparable to states or counties in the United States. Enhanced mapping features have been added as part of this update.
According to the Census Bureau’s announcement: “The current update incorporates new data from censuses, surveys and administrative records, and updated analyses based on those data.”
The International Database contains estimates and projections on demographic indicators such as population size and growth by sex and single year of age up to 100-plus years old. It also includes information on mortality rates, fertility rates and net international migration for over 220 countries and areas. The Census Bureau regularly updates the IDB when new information becomes available.
Further details about these estimates and projections can be accessed on the International Database Overview webpage at https://www.census.gov/data-tools/demo/idb/informationGateway.php.
