The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has announced a series of public forums to gather input on the proposed transfer of control of Cox California Telcom to Charter Communications. The transaction would result in Charter assuming control over Cox subsidiaries that provide cable, voice, mobile, enterprise services, commercial fiber, and managed IT services within California.
The CPUC emphasized the importance of public participation in its decision-making process. Comments made during these forums will be considered as part of the evaluation of the proposed transaction. “Comments shared during the Public Forums will help the CPUC make an informed decision,” stated the commission.
While members of the CPUC and their staff may attend these events, no official decisions regarding the transaction will be made during the forums.
The schedule for public participation includes both virtual and in-person options. Virtual sessions are set for February 4 and February 25 at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., accessible via toll-free phone number 800-857-1917 with participant passcode 1673482#. The sessions can also be viewed online at https://www.adminmonitor.com/ca/cpuc/, though those wishing to comment must call in.
In-person forums are scheduled for February 12 at L.A. County Library – East Los Angeles (4837 E. 3rd St., Los Angeles) and February 19 at National City Council Chambers (1243 National City Blvd., National City), both at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
To participate, individuals can sign up to speak in person or use remote access by calling into the designated number during virtual sessions. Participants should press star (*) one to enter a queue for public comment; an Administrative Law Judge will announce speakers when it is their turn.
Written comments can also be submitted online through the Charter-Cox Transaction proceeding’s Docket Card.
Those requiring language translation or other accommodations are encouraged to contact CPUC’s Public Advisor’s Office by email at public.advisor@cpuc.ca.gov or by calling toll free at 866-849-8390 five business days before attending a forum.
The CPUC is responsible for regulating utility services across California, ensuring consumer protection and reliable infrastructure statewide. More information about this process is available on their website: www.cpuc.ca.gov.
