Governor Gavin Newsom has announced that the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) is awarding $99.9 million in California Competes Tax Credits (CalCompetes) to nine companies across California. The funds are expected to help create 2,752 new jobs with an average annual salary of $139,000 and attract more than $370 million in private investment.
“California’s global leadership in innovation and manufacturing continues to set us apart. Through programs like CalCompetes, we’re attracting companies and helping them grow successfully in our state, creating good-paying jobs and opportunities for Californians,” said Governor Newsom.
The selected companies represent a range of sectors such as aerospace, wastewater treatment, microelectronics, food manufacturing, diagnostics equipment, clothing design, and supplements. Manufacturing remains a key industry in California’s economy. In 2024 alone, the sector produced $405.6 billion in output and employed over 1.24 million workers statewide.
Among the awardees:
– Atomic Machines Inc. will invest $156.3 million to expand micro-electromechanical system manufacturing facilities across Santa Clara, Emeryville, and the Greater East Bay Area with plans to add 305 jobs.
– Bright Machines plans a $62.9 million expansion of its data center infrastructure manufacturing facility in Fremont resulting in 295 new positions.
– Hadrian Automation Inc. will invest $52 million to increase aerospace component production capacity in Torrance and Northern California with an expected addition of 650 jobs.

“These companies represent the next generation of California innovation,” said Dee Dee Myers, Senior Advisor to Governor Newsom and Director of GO-Biz. “From advanced manufacturing to clean technology, these investments strengthen the industries that define our economy and accelerate inclusive, economic growth across the state.”
Since inception, CalCompetes has provided tax credits to more than 1,200 businesses that have committed to creating nearly 160,000 full-time jobs within California while generating over $50 billion in private investment.
Earlier this year Governor Newsom introduced the California Jobs First Economic Blueprint aimed at supporting regional growth through initiatives such as job training programs and efforts by nine state agencies working under the Jobs First Council.
California continues leading national trends not only as one of the world’s largest economies but also as a top state for business creation rates, venture capital investments, agricultural production, tourism spending growth, and overall population increases.
