IAM Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen, along with other union leaders, recently visited members working at Alaska Airlines Cargo. During their trip, they met with mechanics from both Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines in Seattle and Hawaii.

A major topic discussed was the upcoming representation election involving the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Union and the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA). This election is taking place as a result of the ongoing merger between Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines.

Johnsen addressed questions from union members about this process. He issued a public challenge to AMFA for a debate on the issues affecting aircraft maintenance technicians. “I am willing to meet at any time, anywhere to discuss issues at stake for the workforce,” Johnsen said.

The IAM has made video highlights of these discussions available online.
