The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) is inviting its members to participate in the upcoming Spanish Organizing I class at the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center in Hollywood, Maryland. The course will be held from December 14 to 19, 2025.
According to the IAM, the class is open to all members and staff assigned by their General Vice President (GVP). While fluency in Spanish is not a requirement, having some understanding of the language is considered beneficial.
“The IAM continues to lead the labor movement in offering comprehensive education and leadership development in multiple languages, ensuring that no worker is left behind. Through programs in English, Spanish, and French, the IAM provides every member with the tools and knowledge to grow, organize, and advance within our union and the broader movement for working people,” stated an IAM representative.
The Spanish Organizing I Class aims to help participants develop skills needed for organizing groups of workers and negotiating stronger contracts. The curriculum uses real case studies from past IAM organizing campaigns. Topics covered include strategic campaign planning, one-on-one communication, issue-based organizing, recruiting internal teams, countering company campaigns, message crafting, essential organizing terminology, and building alliances with community partners.
IAM officials emphasized that as workplaces become more diverse, it is important for union members to have access to training that helps them communicate effectively with all workers.
Locals or districts interested in enrolling members or staff are advised to contact their GVP for assignment. For additional information about the program or enrollment details, individuals can reach out directly to the Winpisinger Center by phone or email.
