The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Midwest Territory and District 77 held the 25th Annual Guide Dogs of America (GDA) Charity Golf Tournament, known as the “John Massetti Memorial,” in Minnesota this past Sunday. The event brought together fifty-six golfers who raised over $15,000 for Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines. Additional support came from raffle prizes totaling more than $5,000, contributed by sponsors and supporters.
The tournament began a quarter-century ago when John Massetti, a member of Local 1833, organized the first event. At that time, most fundraising efforts for GDA were focused on motorcycle runs. Massetti, an enthusiastic golfer, saw an opportunity to engage members through golf while supporting a charitable cause. Although he passed away two decades ago, IAM District 77 and Local 1833 have continued his initiative each year with participation from members, retirees, sponsors, and friends.
Guide Dogs of America provides guide dogs and service dogs to people in need across the country.
“I want to thank everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to come out and support Guide Dogs of America,” said IAM Midwest Territory General Vice President Sam Cicinelli. “It’s because of the dedication and hard work of our members, our retirees, and our volunteers that this event continues to be such a success.”
“This tournament is more than just a day on the golf course,” said IAM District 77 Directing Business Representative Andrew Peltier. “It’s a powerful way to honor John Massetti’s legacy and make a real difference in the lives of those who rely on Guide Dogs of America. The commitment and generosity of everyone involved is truly inspiring.”
The annual tournament continues to highlight the collective effort among IAM members in Minnesota to raise funds for individuals who benefit from guide dogs.
