IAM Union General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes and Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen visited the William W. Winpisinger Education and Technology Center (W3) to engage with classes focused on organizing and young worker leadership.

During their visit, Cervantes and Johnsen participated in Organizing I classes offered in both Spanish and English, as well as the Young Workers Leadership Program. The sessions brought together students from across North America to develop their skills and strengthen their commitment to advancing the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM).

Dora Cervantes emphasized the importance of making organizing education accessible in Spanish, stating that it is crucial for all members to have the resources they need to lead. She said her visit underscored IAM’s ongoing focus on inclusion, education, and empowering union members at every level.

Richie Johnsen met with organizers and young workers during the visit. He acknowledged their dedication and enthusiasm, particularly given the timing close to the holidays.

Participants in the Young Workers program said that having union leaders present reinforced their sense of belonging within the labor movement and confirmed that they have a voice in union matters.
