The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) has called on the U.S. Senate to pass the Protect America’s Workforce Act, a bill designed to restore collective bargaining rights for federal workers. The legislation follows an executive order issued by President Donald Trump on March 27, which ended collective bargaining for federal unions.
IAM International President Brian Bryant sent letters to both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate, urging lawmakers to support the Protect America’s Workforce Act (H.R. 2550). The bill was introduced in the House by Representatives Jared Golden (D-ME) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and has received bipartisan backing.
“IAM Union strongly supports the Protect America’s Workforce Act for restoring collective bargaining rights to the nation’s federal workforce,” said Bryant in his communication with legislators.
Federal employees are described as essential workers who are dedicated to serving the public. According to IAM, collective bargaining provides these workers with important workplace protections and improves service delivery to Americans.
IAM represents thousands of federal workers, including those affiliated with the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE-IAM), which represents about 110,000 federal employees across the country.
