Craig T. Albanese, MD, MBA, will become president of Integrated Care and Coverage at Kaiser Permanente starting September 29. In this new role, Albanese will oversee the daily operations of the integrated health care system and report directly to Greg A. Adams, chair and chief executive officer.
Albanese’s responsibilities will include leading strategy and performance across all Kaiser Permanente markets in partnership with Permanente Medical Groups. He will have direct oversight of market presidents, hospital operations, continuum services, pharmacy, human resources, labor strategy, and consumer experience.

Before joining Kaiser Permanente, Albanese was chief executive officer at Duke University Health System in Durham, North Carolina. He previously served as executive vice president and chief operating officer at Duke. His earlier roles included positions at NewYork-Presbyterian such as chief clinical integration officer and system chief medical officer during a period of expansion and integration efforts. He also worked as chief operating officer for women’s and children’s hospitals within that organization.
Albanese has more than 25 years of leadership experience in quality improvement, medical education, perioperative services, as well as administrative roles at Stanford Children’s Health and University of California, San Francisco.
He completed his undergraduate studies at Washington and Lee University in Virginia. Albanese earned his MBA from Santa Clara University-Leavey School of Business and received his medical degree from State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn.
