Kaiser Permanente and Renown Health have announced an agreement to jointly own and operate a health plan and outpatient care delivery system in northern Nevada, with services expected to begin in 2026. The partnership will combine the resources of both nonprofit organizations to expand access to care in the region.
Greg A. Adams, chair and chief executive officer of Kaiser Permanente, said, “Our mission calls us to bring high-quality, affordable health care and coverage to as many people and communities as we can. Our members, employers, physicians and community members have been asking us to provide our unique offering of value-based care in Nevada for some time. Working with the leading health care provider in northern Nevada, we will now have the opportunity to care for more people, help more employers offer coverage to their employees, and in collaboration with Renown Health, improve the health of this growing community.”
Brian Erling, MD, MBA, president and CEO of Renown Health, stated: “We are pleased to introduce this relationship in Nevada, enhancing access to affordable care and coverage. By joining our health plan together with Kaiser Permanente, a respected national partner, we can expand access to affordable, high-quality insurance coverage for even more Nevadans. This collaboration strengthens our ability to keep care local, while bringing the scale, expertise and innovation of a national leader. Together, we are ensuring that individuals, families and employers across the state have more choices and better coverage. Together, we can improve the overall health of the communities we serve and create additional capacity to care for more people.”
Reno is currently experiencing significant growth as it is the second-largest metropolitan area in Nevada with an expanding economy that is attracting new businesses and residents at a rate higher than the national average.
Pending regulatory approval of the agreement between Kaiser Permanente Nevada and Renown Health’s Hometown Health insurance arm—which has operated since 1988—employers and residents will be able to select new health plan options during open enrollment beginning in 2026. Plans include opening a multispecialty ambulatory health system with locations throughout central and northern Reno where patients can receive specialty medical services along with pharmacy support.
Renown Health will continue operating independently as a nonprofit healthcare network serving not only Nevada but also Lake Tahoe and northeast California regions.
Under terms of this joint venture arrangement set for completion after regulatory review anticipated by early 2026,Kaiser Permanente will acquire majority ownership of Hometown Health. No immediate changes are planned for existing Hometown Health or Senior Care Plus plans or their service networks.
