A recent investigation by the Oakland Police Department (OPD) has led to the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of six vehicles in connection with a large-scale sideshow event held on August 24, 2025. Officers also recovered a firearm during the operation.

On September 12, OPD, assisted by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol, executed search warrants at residences in Oakland and Santa Rosa. According to authorities, the two people arrested are believed to be the primary organizers of the event. They were taken into custody for felony warrants related to promoting and facilitating the sideshow.

The illegal gathering attracted about 100 vehicles and 300 spectators across several neighborhoods, including 47th Street and Adeline Street, 41st Street and Howe Street, 98th Avenue and International Boulevard, as well as 42nd Avenue and International Boulevard. Activities reported included setting off illegal fireworks, negligent discharge of firearms, and setting a vehicle on fire.

Police described sideshows as an ongoing public safety issue throughout California. Such events have caused significant disruptions to communities and have resulted in extensive damage to city infrastructure.

In response to this recent incident, police announced plans to increase staffing over the coming weekend. They will also work with regional law enforcement partners to proactively address any potential sideshow activity.

“OPD will continue to take decisive action to disrupt sideshows and hold accountable those who put the community at risk by organizing and participating in such activities. When appropriate, this includes seeking felony criminal charges against those who elect to organize and/or facilitate these disruptive and destructive events.”

“OPD remains committed to working with community stakeholders and partner agencies to prevent the dangerous and disruptive behavior associated with sideshows.”
