The Oakland Police Department is investigating a stabbing that took place on August 19, 2025, in the 1600 block of 81st Avenue. Officers responded to the scene at around 6:30 p.m. and found a female victim suffering from multiple stab wounds.

According to the department, officers provided immediate medical assistance by applying tourniquets and pressure to control bleeding until Falck Ambulance arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital. The police identified Officers S. Durkin, L. Roman, and E. Varela as those who assisted at the scene.

“OPD Officers S. Durkin, L. Roman, and E. Varela’s quick actions reflect the Department’s commitment to public safety. Swift and decisive efforts likely saved the victim’s life, and the medical staff last listed her in stable condition,” stated the department.

While officers were aiding the victim, police say the suspect returned to the scene still armed with a knife and confronted them. The officers were able to take the suspect into custody without further incident.

The suspect is facing several charges, including attempted homicide and domestic violence. The case has been submitted to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office for possible prosecution.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about this case to contact the OPD Special Victims Section at (510) 238-3641.

In 2023, Oakland partnered with High Threat Innovations after receiving a grant to provide all patrol officers with trauma first-aid kits. These kits have helped officers deliver emergency care in critical situations throughout the community.
