Authorities in Oakland conducted an inspection at a smoke shop on the 1400 block of Webster Street after receiving complaints from the community. The operation was carried out by the Oakland Police Department’s Alcohol Beverage Action Team (ABAT) and the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA).

On October 16, 2025, investigators seized psilocybin mushrooms, cannabis products, flavored tobacco items, a large quantity of untaxed tobacco from outside California, two firearms, and over $4,800 in cash. Officials stated that the business did not have licenses or permits to sell cannabis or tobacco products.

No arrests were made during the inspection. However, authorities have forwarded the case to the Alameda County District Attorney’s office for further review. Civil charges and possible eviction are being considered.

The OPD ABAT unit expressed gratitude for assistance received during this operation. “The OPD ABAT unit appreciates the support of our community members and the collaboration of its investigative partners, including CDTFA, during the operation.”

After completing their investigation, police will also refer the matter to both county prosecutors and city attorneys for evaluation of criminal and civil charges.

The ABAT unit said it will continue working with other agencies under funding from Proposition 56 Tobacco Enforcement Grant to address illegal sales of tobacco and cannabis in Oakland.
