The Oakland Police Department (OPD) has seized nearly 130 vehicles this year in connection with illegal sideshow activity within the city. According to the department, more than 80% of these vehicles are registered outside of Oakland.
Investigators are continuing efforts to identify individuals involved in criminal behavior and participation related to sideshows. The OPD is also working with other law enforcement agencies to prevent and reduce these gatherings.
To date, the department reports that it has issued 144 seizure warrants for vehicles linked to evading police, reckless driving, and sideshow-related offenses. A total of 128 vehicles have been towed as part of this effort. These figures do not include additional vehicles that officers may have towed at or near the scene during a sideshow event.
The OPD stated, “If you take part in illegal sideshows in Oakland and drive home thinking you’re in the clear, think again. Just because you got away that night doesn’t mean we won’t find you.” The statement continued, “If you participate in illegal sideshows in Oakland, your vehicle may be towed and held for 30 days.”
This enforcement action is part of the department’s Summer Safety Plan aimed at addressing illegal sideshows that officials say endanger participants, spectators, and residents alike.
“Working together, we can make Oakland safer,” the OPD said.
