Oakland Style Week will feature “The Town’s Threads: A Living Runway,” a three-hour event celebrating East Oakland’s culture and style at Liberation Park on October 12. The event, led by an MC, will introduce the E.A.S.T. (Embracing Authentic Style Together) vision and guide attendees through six themed districts. Each district will showcase different aspects of Oakland’s communities and creative expressions, such as “Roots & The Revolution,” “Fun & The Family,” and “Movers & The Adorners.” The program concludes with a finale where models, community leaders, and lowriders gather for a final bow on the main promenade. No reservations are required to attend. More information is available at Blackculturalzone.org.
In addition to the runway event, Oakland offers an ongoing self-guided vintage shopping tour. Over forty stores across the city sell vintage and antique clothing, records, furniture, and housewares. These shops reflect Oakland’s diversity and creativity while supporting sustainability. Visitors can use a curated map to explore these neighborhoods and plan their own tours.
