As the holiday season approaches, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is offering advice to help customers manage their energy use and costs. The company points out that lighting accounts for about 10% of a typical household’s energy consumption, while kitchen appliances contribute around 31%, according to data from the California Energy Commission. During the holidays, increased use of lights, heating, and cooking can lead to higher winter energy bills.
David Poster, PG&E Director of Building Electrification and Energy Efficiency, said: “The holidays are all about connection and comfort. Customers can celebrate while keeping energy costs down by adding a few simple steps into their holiday routine.”
PG&E suggests building an Energy Efficiency DIY Toolkit with efficient materials as a way for households to save money over time. The company also encourages customers to review their account settings online using PG&E’s Rate Comparison tool to ensure they are on the most cost-effective rate plan for their needs.
To further help with budgeting, PG&E offers Budget Billing, which calculates monthly payments based on the average energy usage over the past year. This approach helps customers avoid unexpected seasonal spikes in their bills.
