Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is advising customers to review their current rate plans, suggesting that switching could help lower their energy bills. The company has made available a Rate Comparison tool through customers’ online accounts, which analyzes the previous 12 months of energy usage to recommend the lowest-cost plan.

According to PG&E, there will be no additional electric rate increases for the remainder of 2025. Residential combined gas and electric bills are expected to remain steady this year and decrease in 2026. Despite overall bill stabilization since early 2024, higher summer usage may still result in increased costs for some customers.

Vincent Davis, PG&E’s senior vice president of customer experience, said: “Sharing simple solutions can help our customers manage their energy use and save money. Switching to the lowest-cost rate plan is as easy as 1-2-3. Log into your online account, compare rate plans using the online tool and select the lowest-cost plan for you.”

Customers do not need to alter their energy consumption habits to benefit from switching plans. However, those who opt for time-of-use rates—where prices vary depending on when electricity is used—may achieve further savings by shifting usage to off-peak hours.

An analysis conducted by PG&E in Fresno County found that more than 24,800 households could collectively save $13.4 million annually by moving to their lowest-cost rate plans. Most reviewed accounts could save over $300 per year; some might see savings up to $1,000 annually. Approximately 70% of these customers would benefit from leaving the E-1 tiered rate—which charges higher prices as usage increases—and adopting time-of-use rates instead.

PG&E provides eligible residential customers with an annual rate comparison during their service anniversary month. The utility also offers various tools and resources aimed at helping customers manage energy use and reduce costs throughout the summer period.

For those experiencing difficulty paying bills, financial assistance programs are available through PG&E’s website.

PG&E serves more than sixteen million people across Northern and Central California as a subsidiary of PG&E Corporation (NYSE: PCG). More information can be found at pge.com or pge.com/news.
