Snap Inc. has announced Snap OS 2.0, the latest version of its operating system for Spectacles, ahead of the planned public launch of Specs in 2026. The company says the updated software introduces a new interface and features that allow users to enjoy content, browse the web, and stay connected through their wearable device.

According to Snap Inc., the Spectacles Browser has been redesigned for improved speed and efficiency. The browser now includes a minimalist design, optimized page loading, and reduced power consumption. Users can access favorite websites quickly using new widgets and bookmarks on the home screen. The toolbar allows typing or speaking website URLs, navigating history, and refreshing pages easily. Windows can be resized to suit user preferences.

WebXR support has also been added to the browser, enabling immersive augmented reality experiences directly from compatible websites.

A new Spotlight Lens feature provides what Snap describes as a “phone-free, larger-than-life experience” by overlaying video content spatially onto real-world environments. “Now you can do the dishes while your favorite creator’s video plays seamlessly in front of your eyes, or layout comments in 3D space. The portrait orientation of our Spectacles’ field of view is a perfect fit for vertical video, allowing you to enjoy content without ever having to look down at your phone. Easily anchor Spotlight in one place, or have it follow you as you move around,” according to Snap Inc.

The update also includes enhancements for sharing memories captured with Spectacles. “We’re also making it easier than ever to relive and share your memories. The new Gallery Lens lets you view your Spectacles captures in a spacious, interactive layout. You can scroll through a curving carousel of your videos, zoom in for more detail, and easily organize your favorites before sending them to a friend or posting to your Story on Snapchat,” Snap stated.

Travel Mode is another addition aimed at stabilizing AR content when users are on the move—whether traveling by plane, train, or car—to keep digital elements anchored during transit.

Snap reports that hundreds of developers across 30 countries are creating Lenses for Spectacles. Popular offerings include SightCraft by Enklu, NavigatAR by Utopia Labs, Pool Assist by Studio ANRK, along with Snap’s own Lenses such as Finger Paint, Chess and Imagine Together.
