Suspect in custody after shots fired during Oakland domestic violence response

Oakland Police officers responded to a domestic violence call involving one adult and two children early on August 8, 2025, in the 1000 block of West Grand Avenue. According to the Oakland Police Department, when officers arrived at the scene and identified themselves, shots were fired at them.

Officers contained the situation without injuries reported. The victims were removed from harm’s way, and police took the suspect into custody. A firearm was recovered at the scene.

“This incident is a reminder of the dangers our officers face when responding to calls for service,” said Chief Floyd Mitchell. “I am grateful no one was hurt, and I commend our officers’ professionalism and courage in protecting the victims and our community.”

The department emphasized its ongoing commitment to addressing domestic violence and encouraged those affected to contact either their Domestic Violence Unit or the National Domestic Violence Hotline for assistance.

Police state that this remains an active investigation.
