The University of California Board of Regents has opened applications for the 2027-28 student regent position. The student regent serves as a full voting member on the board, representing students from all ten campuses in the UC system.

The position is open to all students enrolled at any UC campus. The role includes a stipend and a waiver for all systemwide tuition and fees throughout the two-year term, which consists of one year as a non-voting regent-designate followed by one year as a voting member.

Serving as student regent offers several opportunities: representing nearly 299,400 students, contributing to policy decisions that affect the university community, and advocating for issues such as access, affordability, and student success. The role also provides experience in leadership and governance.

Students interested in learning more about the responsibilities or application process can participate in an informational webinar scheduled for January 29, 2026. During this session, attendees will hear directly from the current student regent and regent-designate.

“We hope every student who is interested in this position will join us for the webinar, and then apply for the position,” said Student Regent Sonya Brooks. “It’s so important that UC’s governing board include a passionate, outspoken student who wants to make a difference.”

Applications must be submitted by March 8, 2026. Additional information about the application process is available through resources such as frequently asked questions and informational flyers provided by the university.

For further inquiries regarding the application process, students are encouraged to contact studentregentapplication@ucop.edu.
